The Global Free Expression Project carries the mission of the Chicago Forum into the international arena. In partnership with the University of Chicago Law School’s Global Human Rights Clinic and the Pozen Family Center for Human Rights, the Chicago Forum seeks to support a leading global mandate on freedom of expression and opinion with sustained research, convening, and analytical assistance.
Students will work directly with Talin Hitik, Executive Director of the Chicago Forum for Free Inquiry and Expression, and Leopoldo Maldonado Gutiérrez, UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Opinion and Expression, providing academic support through research, data collection, and data analysis.
Join a student research team supporting the UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Opinion and Expression. Interns will assist with research, data collection, and data analysis alongside the Chicago Forum for Free Inquiry and Expression.
Eligibility is limited to UChicago undergraduates, with preference for those in their 3rd or 4th year in 2026-2027.
We are hiring two paid graduate Research Assistants to serve in a supervisory capacity on the Global Free Expression Project: one JD or LLM student and one student from any other UChicago graduate program.
The assistants will conduct research and data analysis on global free expression issues, support the UN Special Rapporteur’s thematic reports, and mentor undergraduate researchers.
